Wine Tour of the Willamette Valley Details
Welcome to the Willamette Valley, where six sub-appellations give the wine enthusiast the highest concentration of wineries and vineyards in the state. With 200 wineries to choose from, the intimate experience of Oregon wine country often starts and ends here. So take in the bouquet, watch the legs dance and savor each sip and step.
Even though wine may be the first priority, don’t miss your chance to see the world’s largest wooden airplane. Start the day standing in the belly of Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose at the 1 Evergreen Aviation Museum. Before you leave, stop by the Evergreen Vineyards tasting room and sample their award-winning Pinot Gris.
Wind your way down Highway 18 to 2 Maysara Winery and visit their tasting room and vineyards. Maysara is piling on the accolades for their Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. And learn what Jamsheed is all about.
Head back towards McMinnville for lunch and a walk down their historic 3 Third Street. Artists and artisans thrive
in this eclectic street where musical concerts, farmers markets and UFO festivals all live in harmony.
The afternoon takes you into the heart of the Red Hills of Dundee, where some of Oregon’s oldest and most renown wineries hold their domain.
Start close to the heart of the town of Dundee at 4 Sokol Blosser. Of course they produce the standard Oregon varietals, but their Meditirina blend is something to savor.
Then head up to the top of the hills and take in the friendly competition of two of Oregon’s premier makers of Pinot Noir. Both 5 Domaine Drouhin and 6 Domaine Serene were built for Pinot Noir and the earthy power of Oregon’s signature varietal presents itself well. Don’t rush as you enjoy a glass from the patio and take in the view both wineries offer.
End the day with a culinary feast at one of the many fine restaurants in the area and then retreat to your room in the heart of wine country and relax… you’ve earned it.
