Fort Clatsop, Astoria, Oregon - Travel Oregon

When the expedition of Lewis and Clark arrived at the mouth of the Columbia River in 1805, they knew they had accomplished their goal. They had crossed the North American continent and reached the Pacific Ocean. This monumental achievement is illustrated today by 12 park sites and historic areas on the Oregon and Washington sides of the Columbia River delta. A highlight is Fort Clatsop, near Astoria, Lewis and Clark's winter encampment dating from December 1805 to March 1806.
